So what does 2022 promise streaming viewers? What up-and-coming exclusives can you expect to find? And what kinds of entertainment and sports can you enjoy only via streaming platforms?

Below we highlight some of the trends we anticipate in 2022 streaming entertainment, and explain how MyBundle can help you experience them better—and with great cost savings.

Exclusive Live Sports

Perhaps the biggest trend in streaming in 2022 is the number of exclusive sports events that will be streaming-only. NBC’s Peacock streaming service intends to stream every event on its platform, a major leap from its coverage of the Tokyo Olympics. Through its paid monthly subscription service, Peacock Premium, Peacock will also offer replays of some events and will broadcast many biographical and other informative features common during the Olympics.

Additionally, football fans that simply cannot get enough of their pastime will have to stream at least some games if they want to follow the NFL season fully. For the 2022 fall NFL season, all NFL Thursday Night Football games will be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime.  Announced in December 2021, this promises to be a game-changer in sports broadcasting.

Simultaneous Movie Releases

Another trend we’re keeping an eye on in 2022 is the number of films being released at the same time in both traditional cinemas and on streaming platforms. Born out of the COVID-19 pandemic, this development brings the novelty of exciting film releases directly to your home, without ever having to endure crowds, obnoxious fellow movie-goers, or sold-out showings.

Among the films planned for simultaneous or near-simultaneous streaming release in 2022 are:

The Tragedy of Macbeth: Though technically released at the very end of 2021, Joel Coen’s masterful adaptation of Shakespeare’s thriller stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. It is currently streaming on Apple TV+.

The 355: Streaming on Peacock and starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, and Penelope Cruz, The 355 is a spy movie that puts women at the center of a compelling and gripping espionage case.

Marry Me: Billed as a musical romantic-comedy, this Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson film will stream on Peacock on February 11, the same day it is released in theatres.

There are currently several conflicting signs as to just how many simultaneous releases there will be in 2022, with some studios pulling back and others planning more streaming launches. So keep your ears open for more streaming releases of new movies throughout the year.

Epic Entertainment

Streaming platforms continue to churn out major entertainment, and 2022 promises even more ambitious releases.  Netflix is already known as a streaming production powerhouse, and new seasons of the hugely popular and critically-claimed series The Crown, Ozark, and Stranger Things are coming to your screen this year.

Perhaps the most anticipated streaming-only production of the year, however, will be Amazon’s massive Middle Earth-based series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.  A prequel to the blockbuster, Oscar-winning film trilogy The Lord of the Rings, it tells the back-story of the creation of the rings of power that led to Frodo’s epic quest.

Adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved masterpiece, Amazon is investing over a billion dollars—that is NOT a typo—into this series, including a reportedly enormous quarter-billion-dollar sum paid just for the rights to tell this story. It will only be available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video service, and it is sure to be among the most talked about television events of the year.
